Christmas definitely crept up on me this year! I swear it feels like yesterday was the start of the semester and now tomorrow is Christmas Eve!! If you’re like me you are probably wrapping up all of your last minute shopping and preparing for two days full of family, food, gifts! Traditions are one of the best parts of spending Christmas with family and friends. So I’d like to share 4 of my favorite Christmas eve/ Christmas traditions.
#1 Putting up The Tree
This one comes a little early but every year on the night of Thanksgiving, my family comes together to put up our Christmas tree. My mom has never really made us follow a “theme” and kind of lets my brothers and I have our way with the tree. (Imagine letting four young children decorate your tree. TACKY! However, it was always an exciting time and a tree filled with handmade ornaments as well as whatever other colors we talked our mom into buying. The tree was definitely a sight to see!
#2 Christmas Eve at Grandmas!
Grandparents are a great [art about the holidays right!? Their house seems to be the heart of the holidays for many families. Every year for as long as I can remember all of my cousins go to my grandmothers for Christmas eve finger foods and a gift exchange. We watch Christmas movies, listen to Christmas music, and of course get gifts from Grandma and Grandpa.
#3 Christmas Cookies!
This tradition didn’t come full circle until I stopped believing but I believe it is my favorite (and one of the main reasons I can’t wait to have children!) After leaving my grandparents on Christmas eve we would get into our favorite pajamas and then make cookies for Santa. We all sit around the table and each of us eats 2 cookies while writing a little note to Santa. That was it until I stopped believing lol… then my mother let me play “Santa.” After my brothers were in bed and asleep I would get up to eat the cookies, drink the milk, respond to their note. I would then go back to bed so my mom could put out the gifts.
#4 Grandma visits for Christmas morning
There’s nothing better than waking up on Christmas morning to a tree full of all the gifts you asked “Santa” for. I just picture a living room full of trashed wrapping paper, us all playing with our favorite gift and my mom smiling knowing “Santa” had made us all very happy. Before this started we would open all our gifts then get ready to go to grandmas and be away from our toys all day! (Not what any kids want to do on Christmas morning.) So, to solve this the tradition started where my grandparents would come to visit us and my aunties houses Christmas morning. We’d have dinner together, later on, that night.
Don’t forget to like, share, and comment some of your family’s Christmas traditions! 🙂
