“You can’t defeat your demons if you’re still enjoying their company” – Hunterdale Christian Church
Demons… we all have them… right?
Well maybe not demons in the literal sense but what about that “friend” that brings you nothing but drama? That classmate or coworker that always distracts you, leading you to leave task unfinished? That voice keeping you out of the gym but in Cookouts drive thru? The numbness that leads to self-medicating instead of seeking actual help? Sometimes we are the one blocking our own growth by allowing unhealthy habits, relationships, and friendships into our life.
Honestly, those 2 AM Cookout runs are definitely more fun than trips to the gym; but when chasing a healthier body/ lifestyle the trips to cookout should probably be eliminated. (or maybe just minimized) Just as workplace or classroom friendships enhance the day to day experience but not at the expense of productivity. Essentially anything that distracts you from your purpose is a metaphorical demon in your life. These demons come in all types of disguises and present themselves as things we typically enjoy. Which is why it is important to learn how to notice when we’re unconsciously inviting the company of a demon to stay in our life and then stop it before they settle in too comfortably.
So, this week I challenge you all to evaluate the “demons” in your life whose company you find your self still enjoying. Then begin purging them from your life in order to get back on track towards your purpose.
